A Simple Skincare Routine: The Luna Well Approach

Skincare does not have to be complicated to be effective.

For many people, the hardest part of caring for their skin is knowing where to start. There are so many products, trends, and opinions that it can feel overwhelming before you even begin.

At The Luna Well, I believe a good skincare routine should feel supportive, realistic, and consistent. Your routine should help your skin function well without stripping it, irritating it, or making you feel like you need ten different products to see a difference.

The best routine is usually the one you can actually follow.

Start With the Basics

Before adding advanced serums, masks, retinol, exfoliants, or treatment products, your skin needs a strong foundation.

For most clients, that foundation includes:

Gentle cleanser
Moisturizer
SPF during the day
Consistent water intake
Monthly or regular facials for deeper support

These basics may sound simple, but they matter. When your skin is cleansed, moisturized, protected, and supported consistently, it has a better chance of looking calm, balanced, and healthy.

Morning Skincare Routine

Your morning routine should prepare and protect your skin for the day.

A simple morning routine may include:

Gentle cleanse, or a rinse if your skin is dry or sensitive
Hydrating serum if needed
Moisturizer
SPF

SPF is one of the most important steps in any skincare routine. Daily SPF helps protect the skin from sun damage, premature aging, dark spots, uneven tone, and irritation. If you are investing in facials or skincare products, SPF helps protect that investment.

Evening Skincare Routine

Your evening routine is where your skin gets to recover from the day.

A simple evening routine may include:

Cleanser
Second cleanse if you wore makeup, sunscreen, or heavier products
Treatment product if recommended
Moisturizer

Cleansing at night matters because your skin collects oil, sweat, SPF, makeup, pollution, and debris throughout the day. Your evening routine does not need to be harsh. The goal is to remove the day without stripping the skin.

Common Products and What They Do

You do not need every product on the shelf. It is more important to understand what each product is meant to do.

Cleanser removes oil, sweat, SPF, makeup, and buildup without stripping the skin.

Toner can refresh, hydrate, or balance the skin depending on the formula. Not everyone needs one.

Serum is usually a more concentrated product used for a specific goal, such as hydration, brightening, calming, acne support, or aging concerns.

Vitamin C can support brightness and uneven tone, but it should be chosen carefully if your skin is sensitive.

Retinol or retinoids may help with texture, aging concerns, and breakouts, but they can also cause dryness or irritation if introduced too quickly.

Exfoliants help remove buildup and support smoother-looking skin, but too much exfoliation can weaken the skin barrier.

Moisturizer supports the skin barrier and helps keep the skin comfortable, hydrated, and balanced.

Masks can support hydration, calming, brightening, or detoxifying, but they should be chosen based on what your skin actually needs.

SPF protects the skin daily and should be part of every morning routine.

Common Skin Concerns

Most people come in with one or more common skin concerns, including dryness, dullness, breakouts, congestion, uneven texture, dark spots, sensitivity, redness, or signs of aging.

Sometimes the concern is not only about the skin. Stress, hormones, sleep, water intake, medication, weather, nutrition, and daily routines can all show up on the skin.

That is why I approach skincare from a whole-person perspective. Products matter, but so does how your skin is being treated, how often it is being supported, and whether your routine is helping or overwhelming your barrier.

Exfoliation Should Be Thoughtful

Exfoliation can help with dullness, texture, buildup, and uneven tone, but more is not always better.

Too much exfoliation can leave the skin feeling sensitive, dry, tight, red, or irritated. It can also weaken the skin barrier and make other products sting.

For many clients, exfoliating one to three times per week is enough, depending on skin type, sensitivity, and the products being used.

During your facial, I can choose the type and level of exfoliation that makes sense for your skin that day instead of guessing at home.

Water Intake Is Part of the Bigger Picture

Water alone will not fix every skin concern, but hydration is still part of healthy skin and overall wellness.

When your body is dehydrated, your skin may look dull, feel tight, or appear less plump. Hydration supports the body as a whole, including circulation, digestion, energy, and how your skin feels.

Skincare works best when it is supported by the basics: water intake, rest, nutrition, stress management, and consistent care.

At The Luna Well, I look at skin as part of the whole person. Your skin is affected by more than what you put on it.

Monthly Facials Support Your Home Routine

Your home routine is what supports your skin every day. Your facial is what allows your skin to receive deeper, more customized care.

Monthly facials can help with buildup, dryness, congestion, dullness, texture, and relaxation. They also allow me to see how your skin changes over time and adjust your treatments and routine as needed.

Regular facials help us stay ahead of changes instead of only reacting when your skin feels off.

Keep It Simple and Consistent

The goal is not perfection.

For most people, the best place to start is:

Cleanse your skin gently
Moisturize consistently
Wear SPF daily
Drink water
Avoid over-exfoliating
Use treatment products with intention
Book regular facials for deeper support
Adjust your routine when your skin changes

Simple does not mean basic. Simple means intentional.

Build a Routine That Supports Your Skin and Your Life

Your skincare routine should feel like something you can return to, not something that stresses you out.

At The Luna Well, I can help you understand what your skin needs, what may be too much, and what steps are worth keeping. Whether you are starting from scratch or trying to simplify what you already use, your routine can be built in a way that feels realistic and supportive.

Healthy skin is not about doing everything. It is about doing the right things consistently.
